Team From Adeleke University Finds Drug For Damaged Liver
Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, has recorded a medical breakthrough when a team of medical researchers in the institution produced a mixture for the treatment of patients with damaged livers.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Oluwole Amusan, who disclosed this to pressmen yesterday during a press briefing ahead of the second convocation of the university scheduled for July 17, 2016, said that a human volunteer had been cured of a liver problem when the drug was tested on him.
Though Prof. Amusan did not say much on the development, he however stressed that the medical research breakthrough borders on antioxidant and hepato- protective potentials of lemon juice and sorghum mixture against paracetmol-induced liver damage in rats.
He attributed the feat to the academic staff’s deep commitment to discipline, professionalism and respect for the quality standard that the university stands for.
According to him, out of the 266 students who would graduate from different faculties with first degrees, 23 came out with First Class Division, 143 finished with Second Class Upper, while 97 made Second Class Lower Division.
The VC also announced the award of honorary degrees to deserving personalities, including the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, who will be offered the Honorary Degree of Science in Public Administration and Leadership.
Please come back to work. Kogi State University (Ayangba) Students beg lecturers
Students of Kogi State origin in tertiary institutions, have appealed to lecturers in Kogi State University, Ayangba, to call off their three months old strike.
The students, under the aegis of National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS), made the appeal on Tuesday in Lokoja during a press conference.
The students, under the aegis of National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS), made the appeal on Tuesday in Lokoja during a press conference.
The President of NAKOSS, Mr Ahamadu Ibrahim, told newsmen that students and parents had been at the receiving end of the lecturers’ action, saying it was time they have a rethink.
“We are tired of staying at home.
“Since Gov. Yahaya Bello had already met 80 per cent of their demands, the lecturers should call off the strike to pave a way for the remaining unresolved matters to be thrashed through round table discussion,’’ Ibrahim pleaded
He urged the lecturers to be mindful of the negative implications of the continued closure of the institution, saying that the future of the state and its citizens was at stake.
The NAKOSS President commended Gov. Bello’s administration for its efforts to take education out of the woods and pleaded with stakeholders in the sector to cooperate and support the government.
He chided the national secretariat of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for issuing ultimatum to Kogi government over the strike by the lecturers in KSU.
“Two wrongs will never make a right. NAKOSS dissociates itself from the position of NANS.
“We believe that Gov. Yahaya Bello should rather be commended for his efforts at reaching out to the lecturers to prevail on them to suspend the strike,” Ibrahim said. (NAN)
